In fact even a hard reset, using the Peacock method, was sometimes not sufficient to revert the router to a clean state. This makes you conclude that the flash failed, and then you start resetting it again, and you go round and round. My takeaway is that after you flash dd-wrt the router has a tendency to stay in a soft-bricked state. I have the Asus AC68U C1 and have experienced similar problems. To be honest im quite partial to the ASUS Merlin firmware for the ASUS routers. Last edited by deviant on Wed 18:51 edited 1 time in total
LATER EDIT: managed to get ddwrt on RT-AC68U by 1st downgrading the asus firmware to an old enough version 3.0.0.4.378.8258, then following this guide PS: i've got it to a old enough asus fw version that has telnet/ssh (if that matters in any way)
Is there some thing that I must do in particular for this model? ('cuz i've flashed countless routers to ddwrt before and none gaved me this much trouble) Managed to get it back to original fw via asus recovery tool, but it's getting kinda frustrating. it's always gettting stucked in a boot loop (soft brick). I even tried flashing it from asus recovery tool. I tried to flash the oldest original fw i could find on asus's website & then flash it to ddwrt. I tried to flash it from main web interface/admin. Hey, I have the same problme - trying to flash a stock RT-AC68U (ver. I always download new images and flash from the command line, has never failed. I use three AC68U's (rev A1 & C1) and they work quite well. If you're looking to be spoon-fed don't use DD-WRT, stick with stock.
The most reliable way of flashing it, is to hold the reset button while powering it on, wait for the power LED to flash.Ĭonnect with a twisted pair cable to your PC (LAN port in router) and set static IP 192.168.1.2, access 192.168.1.1 and then there is a webpage where you can upload the DD-WRT image.ĭevice works really good and stable, just the 5 GHz LED not lighting up with DD-WRT. Owner of a AC68U (rev C1) here, I have been running DD-WRT for a long time. if you can't help - don't clutter the topic with your posts. and did not find an answer to my questions. There are also previous forum threads here talking about your specific router and specific hardware version.
the question is how not to break this model?Ĭheck wiki, check router database, everything is there.
I have install many dd-wrt on tp-link, d-link.
